AMRAP THE HARD BITS

You know that feeling of having to do something you know is a huge time consuming task, like cleaning your house or clean the kitchen or work on a long project. It just feels like someone has asked you to the impossible, suddenly all energy has drained from your body and you just don't want to touch it at all.
In CrossFit, AMRAP (As Many Rounds As Possible) is used for high-intensity workouts—short bursts of focused effort where you get as much done as possible in a set time. I like to take that same approach to life. It keeps things moving, makes hard tasks more manageable, and honestly, makes them more fun. This is the magic of a timer.
How does it work?
I use this with myself and my family for both efficiency and motivation—nothing like a ticking clock to light a fire under you.
We pick a task, set a timer—15, 20, 30 minutes—and go all in. That’s it. One task (or in my case, a few, because my brain refuses to focus on just one). We blast music, set the clock, and dive into cleaning, organizing, researching—whatever needs to get done.
I use this for work projects, phone calls, anything that feels heavy.
Instead of dreading it, I set the clock, go hard, and when time’s up, I move on. It’s a simple tool, but it changes everything. You might have to set projects in multiple bits but that's okay, the breaking up of time is good for the mind and the body.
Try it. See what happens.
